Job Family Summary

On the Underwriting Policy Team we monitor and ensure the quality of the Property and Casualty book of business through collaboration with internal and external business partners. We use conduct analytics to develop Countrywide underwriting standards that impact business results, underwriting process and guidelines.

Job Summary

The Underwriting Product and Analytics Manager leads the evaluation of current and new Underwriting procedures and processes, and recommends improvements. You will also lead the development of new UW standards, procedures and processes and ensure alignment across multiple business divisions.


Key Responsibilities

Research and Analysis

  • You determine the integration and delivery of planned changes/ projects/products to regions/field

  • You use data sources and applications to conduct research (OLAP/DART, Business Objects, CDF, etc.) and decide the appropriate data needed and analyses to be conducted for projects to make underwriting recommendations to achieve goals

  • You understand and articulate market specific implications of business strategies (e.g., impact of local decisions on countrywide results)

  • You perform and evaluate trend analysis (e.g., underwriting, competitor analysis, financial)

  • You identify and resolve underwriting issues (e.g., adverse risk selection trends, recommending new third-party data for underwriting decisioning, etc.)

  • Collaborating with other business areas to ensure alignment

  • Reviewing and providing peer feedback on analytics developed by others on the team

  • Serving as a liaison between business unit and technology or other areas of responsibility

Process and Product Design/Improvement

On our team we establish and evaluate underwriting procedures and processes regularly, determining/recommending alternatives or improvements. We forecast short-term and long-term deliverables and own the development/design of new underwriting plans, programs, processes, and products (e.g, administrative processes, inspections, and correct class programs).   • Craft underwriting project concept designs, addresses feasibility (Cost benefit analysis - financial, operational, and technical), develops requirements and measurement

  • Develop communication strategies and materials and solicit and integrate input from key partners

  • Actively monitor metrics/data to ensure processes are followed and applied consistently. Actively communicates anomalies and recommends actions to appropriate partners

Additionally, you will adhere to compliance requirements/standards. You will identify where additional resources/expertise may be necessary to successfully complete projects/assignments. You will also work to build positive relationships among teams and team members to ensure partnership on project objectives and communicate knowledge and experience with peers/leadership for process change/improvement.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience

  • Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience

  • Experience: 5+ years industry experience preferred

  • Advanced underwriting, product management and general insurance knowledge

  • Demonstrates and cultivates a sense of urgency, strong dedication and accountability for achieving results

  • Ability to speak with and influence others

  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills

  • Advanced knowledge of data retrieval and manipulation

  • Effectively network and communicate with different types and levels of staff, both written and verbal

  • Serves as an authority for their respective discipline(s)

  • Develop, mentor and coach others
