Field Claim Representative


SUMMARY:
Investigation, evaluation, and determining the appropriate disposition of all types of claims arising out of the Company’s business. Also includes service to agents, insureds and others in the course of handling those claims to their conclusion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assemble facts, determine coverage, evaluate the amount of loss, analyze legal liability, make payments in accordance with coverage, damage and liability determination, and perform other functions or duties to properly adjust the loss.
  2. Become familiar with insurance coverage by studying insurance policies, endorsements and forms.
  3. Acquire knowledge of claim handling procedures; developing skills in claim negotiations and settlements. Develop skills to effectively service needs of agents, insureds, and others.
  4. Meet with people involved with claims, sometimes outside of our office environment.
  5. Effectively handle portions of claim activities and investigations by phone and mail, but principally through on-site investigations, as warranted.
  6. Maintain regular and predictable attendance in meeting a defined work schedule to achieve service objectives.
  7. Study and obtain appropriate adjuster’s license(s), if required by statute in the jurisdiction employed, within the time frame prescribed by the Company or statute.
  8. Use computer based information for reference; enter information into computer systems; develop specialized skills, including but not limited to property estimating, auto estimating, and use of computer based programs as tools.
  9. Respond effectively to service needs of agents, insureds and others.
  10. Work on increasingly complex claims as assigned by superior.
  11. An increased ability to work independently.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Willing to travel, attend seminars, and attend other training classes as required.
  2. Willing to be temporarily reassigned for catastrophe duty on request.
  3. Willing to relocate, if requested.
  4. Assist with other duties in the department, or elsewhere, on request.
  5. Willing to complete relevant continuing education programs as determined by manager.
