Purpose:  The Vice President of Safety and Compliance will ensure compliance with DOT/OSHA federal, state and local regulations across all segments of the company.  This position will oversee safety of fleet drivers, independent contractors, and employee drivers through five regional safety directors and support staff. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Ensure contractors, and employees at all levels are in full compliance with DOT/OSHA, Safety, Maintenance and Compliance related policies, practices and procedures.
  • Protect clients (and its operating segments) satisfactory safety rating according to DOT regulations.
  • Represent client  in front of customers, federal and state regulators, and insurance providers.
  • Establish policies that ensure legal compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Responsible for vehicle accident prevention and improvement of results.
  • Work with business leaders, directors, managers and supervisors to implement consistent policies through education and monitoring.
  • Oversees and leads independent contractors’ compliance with various legal issues.
  • Oversees and leads injury prevention and OSHA Compliance improvement of results.
  • Oversee and leads the corporate security policy and procedures.
  • Oversees and leads the budget, salary reviews and activities of the Safety department.
  • Provides leadership to staff through motivation, direction, review of and feedback on performance.
  • Provides corporate strategy as it relates to vendor selection and technology enhancements

 Receives very general guidance with respect to overall objectives; work is usually independent of others; operates within corporate and department policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives.

 

 Qualifications and Requirements:  

  • Education/Experience Skills: Bachelor’s degree preferred as well as ten to fifteen years’ experience and/or training in the areas of government regulations (DOT/OSHA), hazardous materials, vehicle maintenance, safety; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills:
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret the moderately complex documents and data.  Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.  Ability to write and give persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, employees, public groups and/or boards of directors.
  • Communicates internally with the entire corporate office, and externally with field offices, insurance companies, government officials, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, consultants and customers.
  • Technical Experience:
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, manipulating databases and spreadsheets, word processing, graphics, Power Point, etc.
  • Preferred knowledge of AS/400, McLeod, industry  (or its affiliates) based software, and Microsoft Windows.
