Underwriter - Managed Care Stop Loss

We’re currently partnered with a leading national insurance carrier that is looking for a Underwriter for their Medical Stop Loss division in Minneapolis, MN.
Assists in leading, managing and directing underwriting of employer stop loss insurance and delivers value-added services. Ensures rate quotes are fair and equitable to clients, profitable to the org, and completed within time frames. Manages and/or provides advanced expertise and guidance on employer stop loss accounts. Maintains accountability for profit and loss of business unit accounts.
Responsibilities
- Independently evaluates risk and underwrites employer stop loss under the pricing and underwriting guidelines established by company.
- Analyzes data, evaluates characteristics of underlying provider agreements, applies relevant claims experience and identifies ongoing member health issues.
- Client responsibilities include handling varied facets of large and complex accounts, relationship management as well as facultative account reviews, service delivery and treaty maintenance.
- Contributes to team profitability by analyzing /assessing assigned client profitability through experience and expense analysis and attention to assigned account performance.
- Responsible for implementation meetings for new employer stop loss accounts.Facilitates and assists on UW value added services for assigned and other accounts.
- Participates in special projects, committees and meetings, as assigned.Works with Underwriter and Underwriting Support Analyst to obtain answers to follow up items, as needed.
- Coaches and trains Underwriters, Underwriting Support Analyst and support staff.Reviews disclosure statements with Medical Management consultants.
- Collaborates with QSM team underwriters where appropriate.Prepares and analyzes client experience and activity reports.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience.
4+ years Employer Stop Loss underwriting experience.
Preferred:
7+ years of experience in the insurance / reinsurance industry.
Experience with Young Consulting Systems software.
Experience working with HMOs.
Underwriting training and mentoring.
