Description

Provides direct supervision, technical training and development to the Renewal & Retention Team. Maximizes client retention through the review and placement of non-renewals and canceled policies with alternative carriers including State Fund residual markets. Ensures that proper underwriting rules and guidelines are adhered to; and makes sure that quality product is delivered to the branch, client and carriers in an accurate, timely manner; that all internal and external clients are supported with a high degree of quality service.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Underwriting Manager is Responsible for all activities associated with a book of business consisting of accounts with annual premiums totaling $124M equating to more than $16.5M in annualized revenue.
  • Underwriting Manager is Responsible for achieving retention targets for specified book of business along with renewing existing clients and expanding/growing revenue through increased product line penetration.
  • Underwriting Manager Manages P&C Underwriters and Specialists in all aspects of workflows, and processing to ensure quality service standards are being met.
  • Underwriting Manager Provides technical expertise and a decisive approach to resolve carrier, client and risk selection issues.
  • Underwriting Manager Monitors day to day workflows, renewals and remarketing of client accounts to ensure that service standards are being met or exceeded.
  • Underwriting Manager Facilitates review of all carrier non renewals, and mid-term cancellations to ensure accurate renewals and cancellations. Validates carrier has provided statutory notifications.
  • Underwriting Manager Manages carrier book roll including establishing a strategic transition plan to ensure a successful transition from one carrier to the other.
  • Underwriting Manager Recruits, selects, hires and evaluates performance of personnel to ensure all department needs are handled appropriately. Counsels and develops staff for personal and corporate advancement through career development, training programs and other resources as required for professional advancement.
  • Underwriting Manager Interacts with Sales and other Paychex Agency departments to develop and maintain interdepartmental relationships in order to achieve remarketing opportunities including prospective revenue.
  • Underwriting Manager Coordinates communication with external parties, including but not limited to banks, insurance partners, insurance regulatory agencies, auditors, etc. to ensure consistent, effective communication.
  • Makes recommendations to department managers regarding the development of policies and procedures to ensure policies and procedures best represent the goals of the Agency.
  • Handles escalated issues from internal and external partners to ensure appropriate resolution.
  • Develops and maintains thorough knowledge of insurance regulations and changes in the insurance environment.
  • Mitigates bad debt risk through effective book management quarterly review.
  • Manages various projects for the Agency to ensure that department needs are met and actions of the team are in line with departmental goals.
  • Utilizes department data to drive policy change necessary for the business.
  • Assists Agency management to achieve budgeted projections through labor expense and administrative expense controls.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Finance - Required
  • Experience with writing/placing of Property & Casualty coverage for small to medium sized businesses.
  • Property and Casualty license - Required
