New opportunity for a Construction Defect Claims Manager.  Our carrier client is looking for someone to manager 4-6 construction defect claims specialists across the US.  Most of the claims are arising in CA market and preference would be to have someone on the West Coast; however, the position could be in any of the markets above.  An outstanding candidate would have minimum of 3 years in supervisory role, Juris Doctorate degree (client will consider experience over the degree).  This position will report to AVP of Construction Defect, who sits in Denver CO.  VP sits in Chicago IL office.

  • Accountable for Team metrics - meeting performance metrics and reporting
  • Analyze and aid with coverage determination to adjusting staff, approve coverage letters
  • Supply training to enhance performance of CD adjusters
  • Partner with management team to create new processes for better performance
  • Ensure cost-effective litigation management and advise team
  • Conformity to Best Practices

The Casualty Claims Department adjudicates claims from small, medium and large property and casualty risks on both an admitted and non-admitted basis through five divisions: Casualty, Contract, Environmental, Property and Transportation. Coverage is provided to a broad group of commercial enterprises. The Casualty Claims Department has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Construction Defect Claims Manager in our Irvine, CA, Denver, CO, Irving, TX, New York, NY, Richmond, VA, San Antonio, TX, or San Francisco, CA office.  

The primary purpose of this position is to successfully supervise and provide technical oversight to a team of six Construction Defect Claims professionals to provide superb claims results for our clients.

    

Responsibilities:

Leads, directs and has leadership accountability for a staff of Claims Adjusters.  This includes ensuring that there are performance objectives and performance metrics in place to both support and meet department goals.

Provide technical oversight to the Adjusters on Construction Defect Claims, including those reflecting the highest degree of technical complexity and coordination.  Analyze claim forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions and other records to determine whether the loss falls within the policy coverage in order to approve coverage position letters.

Provide direction, leadership and training to in-house claims professionals.

Partners with key Claims Management to develop strategic and operational plans aimed at achieving efficiencies so that the department can meet its Critical Success Goals and the business unit can meet both growth and profitability targets.

Establish, refine and evolve best-in-class claim management program operating characteristics, measurement criteria, and meaningful metrics bench marking.

Provide advice and oversight into claim disposition strategies.

Work closely with claims adjusters and outside counsel to ensure cost-effective and appropriate litigation management strategies are in place that will lead to the best overall outcome.

Drives continuous improvement through initiatives involving the employees, processes and technology.

Managing expenditures to budget / plan.

Supports the professional claims selection process to retain claims professionals that consistently demonstrate appropriate technical expertise, maturity and a professional commitment to excellence and customer service.

Ensures claims best practices are met in the support area for proper and consistent claims performance and achieving the appropriate financial outcomes. 

Qualifications:

Education/Certifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required. Multiple industry designations preferred.

Other relevant professional designation preferred.

Work Experience:

Minimum 10 years Construction Defect claims experience, preferably with 3 years in a Claims Supervisory capacity managing adjusters.

Must have good business acumen (i.e. understand how an insurance company works and makes money, including how this role impacts both and our customers’ ability to be profitable).
