Underwriter

Large specialty insurance carrier is seeking an Underwriter to underwrite, market and manage a portfolio of multiple products including blended contractors professional and pollution liability policies for design professionals and general and trade contractors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Underwrite and manage an existing Professional and Environmental Liability book of business.
• Responsibility to develop New Business and grow the business profitably.
• Develop and manage broker and intermediary relationships along with sales and marketing.
• Develop internal relationships with other profit centers and distribution staff.
• Work to become proficient in other related insurance products offered by the company.
• Assist junior staff with underwriting referrals and training.

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

• 6+ years of Design Professional – Architects/Engineers and/or Contractors Professional Liability insurance experience is desired along with knowledge of Environmental liability underwriting.
• Proven marketing abilities and established relationships with brokers.
• Perform required marketing calls through regular broker visits on a timely and frequent basis.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) preferably in engineering or science related discipline.
• Strong record of underwriting profitable business.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
• Excellent communications skills and the ability to work across multiple areas of the company and industries.
• Ability to work independently – self-motivated.
• Candidate should be positive, energetic and possess strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; be well organized, a team player and have strong negotiating skills.
• Moderate travel as required for meetings and marketing.
