Job Description

Allstate Benefits is a leading provider of employee benefits, committed to delivering superior products and services with cutting-edge technology, exceptional customer service and compassionate claims administration. This position is on the IT Acquisition & Distribution team which is responsible for supporting several business-critical applications for day to day operations and large strategic projects. These vital applications are responsible for all the enrollments, processing, and display of policy information from Agents as well as 3rd Party integrators.

The Primary Engineer collaborates with Architecture and Application Developer Leads to create detailed technical solutions, ensuring standards, design patterns, and practices are leveraged so that solutions meet business objectives and adhere to the Allstate Benefits Reference Architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the business problem and intended outcomes of the solution
  • Oversee new solution sets considering current and future technology stack
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure adherence to security standards
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Development Leads to define a common SDLC that is adaptable to a given technical solution
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Development Leads to:
    • Understand and engineer solutions in accordance with relevant industry best practice, technology strategies, roadmaps, standards, and processes
    • Escalate issues with and provide critical feedback on strategies, roadmaps, standards, and processes
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Development Leads to define the object model / class diagram and APIs
  • Collaborate on maintaining development standards
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Development Leads to create non-functional requirements
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Development Leads to create components that can be re-used across products
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Development Leads to complete OSS Review for PEAP (includes Protex Scanning Submission/Review)
  • Leads design reviews

Key Responsibilities (Cont'd)

  • Performs coding of highly complex modules as a subject matter expert
  • Partners with Development Leads in the resolution of highly complex problems
  • Partners with Development Leads in creation of estimates for requirements/features/stories/epics
  • Lead technical Operational Readiness review
  • Reviews application configuration created by other application developers as required
  • Delegates tasks as necessary to the engineering teams
  • Research new product related technologies
  • Recruits engineering staff
  • Resolves disputes between teams

Job Qualifications

Education:

Computer Science Engineering Degree or related field

Required:

  • At least 7 years of experience with ASP.Net MVC, JavaScript/JQuery, REST Standards;
  • At least 7 years of front end experience using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and JavaScript;
  • At least 5 years of Agile (one or more of these) JIRA, Confluence;
  • At least 7 years supporting full lifecycle delivery of complex systems, including requirements, design, build, test, and deployment;
  • At least 7 years implementing standards for system design and development processes, methods, and tools;
  • At least 5 years participating on Agile teams, including practice of Pair Programming and Test Driven Development;
  • At least 3 years working with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery processes and tool automation (one or more of these) Jenkins, Artifactory, SonarQube, Git, Octopus.
  • At least 3 years of React/Redux experience
  • At least 3 years of Entity Framework experience
  • At least 3 year of Web API
