About the Role

Great Plains Casualty is a niche provider of commercial truck insurance products designed exclusively for the needs of independent owner-operators. Financially stable, with an A- rating from A.M. Best, the company has a strategic vision for growth and needs a President to lead the charge for this business expansion. In many ways this feels like a start-up opportunity, so the right executive leader has a hands-on approach to running the business with an ambitious, entrepreneurial spirit.

Duties & Responsibilities

As President, you are the overall leader of the organization and responsible for all aspects of its operations. Initially, you must be willing to be ‘hands-on’ with direct involvement in:

• Regulatory Compliance – Lead national licensing and filing efforts, regulator relations and reporting, and ensure company compliance.
• Business Operations – Oversee claims, policy admin, and financial management activities etc.
• Business Development – Develop and execute strategic plan aligned with ownership vision. Determine in-house vs. external partner capabilities. Expand network of business partners (brokers, TPAs and captive advisors) with a focus on alternative risk / captive reinsurance programs. Originate and capture new business opportunities aligned with growth strategy.

Additional short & long-term goals include:

• Develop and execute plan to expand lines of business & product offerings
• Grow portfolio premium and become a leading commercial auto carrier in alternative risk markets
• Expand team capabilities in compliance, underwriting, operations, product and claims
• Implement modern tools and technologies to scale efficiently as a digital business.

Skills & Experience

• 10+ years of diverse experience at a P&C insurance carrier including:
  • Underwriting
  • Regulatory compliance
  • New Product Development (preferred)
  • Commercial auto lines (preferred)
• In depth understanding of underwriting within commercial auto or commercial trucking/transportation
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Licensed P&C insurance producer

Compensation & Benefits

• $200k-$250k target first year compensation
• This position is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Relocation package available.
