Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$135,700.00 - $223,900.00

What Is the Opportunity?

The AVP, Business Intelligence position is a senior role within the organization. The position leads solution design and execution teams across multiple parallel projects and initiatives. The AVP manages multiple assigned customer relationships, partnering with business intelligence peers to deliver solutions from Data Discovery to Business Intelligence application development. The AVP position leads strategic planning and execution engaging with Senior Leadership on a regular basis. Candidates will have an advanced working knowledge of analytics, Insurance operations and core functions.

This position will have direct reports.

What Will You Do?

  • Ensures the implementation of operational plans within areas of accountability.
  • Ensures quality controls and process improvements are on-going process within areas of accountability.
  • Partners with peers and leaders across organization in implementing strategic initiatives to ensure alignment with Travelers objectives.
  • Accountable for all aspects of the project life cycle for delivery of analytic and reporting solutions aligned to defined business requirements.
  • Lead solution design within assigned tasks and validates that developed solutions align with defined business requirements.
  • Lead prototyping and validate prototypes before production build.
  • Manages the production process and support for Information Delivery assets
  • Designs integrated information delivery strategies to meet the business objectives in alignment with organizational strategies for assigned areas.
  • Works with other divisional and enterprise areas on tool selection, best practices, alignment with technologies and approaches. Leads complex initiatives and projects and/or oversees projects lead by team members.
  • Contributes significantly to the development of the strategic plan for Information Delivery including identification appropriate infrastructures, tools and performance requirements
  • Develop an understanding of all data contained within multiple data marts and source systems
  • Accountable for the recruitment and development of needed talent for meeting long-term business goals.
  • Utilizes strong leadership skills to drive organizational effectiveness and oversee the cost effective implementation of the operating plan.
  • Recognizes, initiates and manages change that impacts the work group/department.
  • May manage Business Intelligence vendors.
  • Leads multiple development teams. May lead multi-disciplinary or cross-functional work teams.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Systems, Mathematics, Economics, Finance or other quantitative degrees.
  • 12 years of general business experience.
  • 10 years experience working with MS Office Suite with advanced knowledge of Excel
  • 10 years experience coding SQL
  • Experience with modern data visualization tools. These may include, but are not limited to Qlik, MicroStrategy, Power BI and Tableau
  • Experience with industry standard statistical programming languages. These may include, but are not limited to R, Python or SAS.
  • Understanding of database structures
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate with others
  • Must be a team player and able to effectively work with team members located in different locations
  • Demonstrate an ability to tell a story using data
  • Problem solving and issue resolution skills necessary
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate independently to design, develop, and prepare reports
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-function teams
  • Core Technical Competencies: MS Office especially Excel with VBA, SQL Server, Qlik, Cognos, TM1, Data Knowledge: Data Acquisition, Preparation and Exploration
  • Experience working with industry standard data platforms. These may include, but are not limited to Teradata, SQL, Big Data, NoSQL, etc., Development techniques (Visualizations, Geospatial, etc.), Web Development approach and skills in support of Modern Business Intelligence platforms,
  • Intermediate analytics and diagnostic skills, Intermediate project management skills.
  • Lead Solution Design and Development: Demonstrated ability to see results to completion. Demonstrate ability to think strategically. Intermediate problem solving and decision making skills. Ability to think strategically.

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Systems, Mathematics, Economics, Finance or other quantitative degrees.
  • 10 years experience in data and analytics experience required.
  • 5 years experience managing people
  • Advanced knowledge of analytics tools
