Develop and implement the technical strategy for emerging database technologies with a concentration in NoSQL and Relational on-premises and Cloud solutions, specifically for Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis, RDS PostgreSQL, and RDS SQL Server database technologies. Function as an advisor, architect, and administrator to application teams on which database platforms best align to their use case and how to best leverage them. Lead the evaluation and adoption of new capabilities in data technology (to include analyzing requirements, assessing existing technologies/features, and assimilating into new technologies/features). Serve as an escalation support level for emerging technologies, technical review, and approval of changes to emerging platforms. Represent DBA organization in incident reviews with leadership. Lead efforts on cost optimization and evaluation of new tools and infrastructure towards building more efficient products. Serve as lead database advisor supporting Agile development teams for large business units leveraging new technologies such as Pivotal Cloud Foundry and AWS for on-premise and Cloud deployments. Guide application groups on data modeling, building complex and efficient read/write queries using methods such as ExplainPlan(), Tracing, Profiling and other best practices to optimize applications performance. Automate redundant and recurring database tasks using modern automation tools and platforms such as Jenkins, GitHub, Ansible, Cloud Formation, Terraform, and Shell scripting. Build CI/CD pipelines to deploy large-scale database clusters in Cloud along with Auto Scaling capabilities.

Duties Cont'd

Build solutions for in-transit security, data at rest encryption, and secured access mechanisms using MS Active Directory (LDAP). Ensure database systems are in compliance with Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) at the server level. Perform cluster, database, and infrastructure level health check reports and integrate alerting mechanisms using tools such as Splunk, Grafana/Prometheus Monitoring, MS Teams, PagerDuty, AWS CloudWatch, OpsManager, OpsCenter, and Cassandra Reaper. Analyze database workloads, identify problem spots, and design solutions to address the problems using monitoring and alerting tools for Cloud based and on-premise deployments. Educate and mentor other database administrators on new platforms capabilities, enterprise availability, and main use cases.


Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (willing to accept foreign educational equivalent) plus three (3) years of experience leading database advisors using Pivotal Cloud Foundry and AWS for on-premise and Cloud deployments or, alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience leading database advisors using Pivotal Cloud Foundry and AWS for on-premise and Cloud deployments.

Specific Skills/Other Requirements

Must also possess the following (quantitative experience requirements not applicable to this section): Demonstrated expertise (DE) working across multiple database platforms - including NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis, and AWS RDS (PostgreSQL and SQL Server), as well as very large databases (VLDBs > 100TB); DE working with Cloud providers such as AWS and open-source software; DE leading the adoption of new technologies such as GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Cloud Formation, Python, Kafka, Spark, NGINX across an organizational platform; DE leveraging security standards and procedures, including encryption (both at rest and transit), data obfuscation, and tokenization; and DE supporting applications which are built using languages such as Golang, Kotlin, and Java using Spring Framework, NiFi, and Flink

Compensation offered for this role is$136,908.20/yearand is based on experience and qualifications.
