Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking an experienced Digital Marketing Analytics Manager to help analyze the effectiveness of digital and content marketing strategies that raise relevant awareness with target audiences, deepen engagement with valuable content and increase preference and demand for Traveler's products utilizing an appropriate mix of analytical, statistical, machine learning tools. Reporting to a Director of Marketing Analytics and Decision Science, s/he will help quantify the impact of marketing channels (e.g. paid, email, social, etc.) while also utilizing data science and statistical modeling techniques (e.g. marketing mix modeling) to understand the impact of media on lower-funnel metrics where appropriate. These techniques will also inform the media team on targeting and segmentation opportunities that improve marketing efficiency.

The Marketing Analytics Manager will work with the analytics leadership to support collaboration with functional business leaders across all business units, including Personal Insurance, Business Insurance and Bond & Specialty Insurance, to help develop and share data-driven insights. The successful candidate will also support other functional areas (e.g. email channel leads) to help improve data quality and develop relevant dashboards to communicate results.

For Business Insurance, the Marketing Analytics Manager will play a key role in developing and executing an analytics practice to measure the field sales team's efforts to engage agents in the sales process, including the effective use of Salesforce and related tools such as Seismic content management and ultimately, sales enablement coaching through Lessonly.

Knowledge and experience in analytics to help our organization make effective decisions, interpret sales and campaign results and report website performance would help. A good communicator, the Manager helps translate results into stories that resonate with audiences at multiple levels in the organization.

Passion for interpreting data, intellectual curiosity to learn new techniques, and ability to use analytical best practices to understand the impact of marketing on both business and customer experience is essential.

This position may be based 100% remotely or in one of our offices.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help develop an analytic practice to measure agent engagement with tools (e.g. For Agents and quoting platforms) and content (e.g. Seismic-distributed) as well as internal field sales enablement efforts.
  • Measure campaign performance and marketing attribution across all channels, including but not limited to digital advertising, social, email, mobile, web and sales enablement.
  • With supervision from analytics leaders, support deeper analysis of agent email, including the impact of reach and frequency on performance. Also  work with marketing and business-unit leaders to understand their goals and address them through consistent measurement models, key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks that seek to quantify the impact of content and marketing on engagement, acquisition, and retention.
  • Determine and use appropriate techniques that may include diagnostic analysis, active monitoring and/or multivariate methods designed to answer business questions, test hypotheses, or assess impacts and results. Specifically, code statistical and predictive modeling techniques to understand the impact of media and other marketing initiatives on preference and demand for Travelers as well as lower-funnel sales impacts-including channel attribution.
  • Leverage analytics platforms (e.g. Google Analytics) and dashboarding technologies (e.g. Salesforce Datorama) to help communicate results with stakeholders in marketing as well as other functions (e.g. sales, product, executive teams, etc.) through a variety of reports (e.g. weekly, monthly, one-off campaign analyses, etc.) that provide actionable recommendations.
  • Work with other analytics teams and assist in implementing on integrated best-practices approach to marketing analytics that maximizes consistency in the collection of data (e.g. tagging) and approach to analysis across business units and functions-including new data and analytics tools and techniques.
  • Develop and utilize a deep understanding of the business to procure data for a specific analysis or prototypes for new data asset, while following coding best practices. 
  • Develop a strong command of internal data sources, explore new and unstructured data sources to assess potential business value.
  • Apply appropriate visualization (charts, graphs, maps, etc.) to analytic insights so that they may be delivered to various audiences.
  • Interpret and communicate findings to key stakeholders. Recommend optimal business action based on balancing business constraints and analytical findings.
  • Leverage existing organizational partnerships across lines and functional teams to influence analytic outcomes.
  • Become a mentor or resource for less experienced analytic talent, onboard new employees and interns, and provide support for recruiting and talent assessment efforts.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge

  • For those with Bachelor's degrees, a focus on mathematics, finance, computer science, statistics, MIS or equivalent is preferred. A Master's Degree is a plus.
  • Some professional track record of developing and communicating analyses via presentations, business intelligence tools (e.g. Datorama, Tableau, QlikView, Microstrategy, etc.).
  • At least one year of technical team project leadership or people management experience preferred.

Job Specific and Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to recognize and interpret performance marketing trends in digital channels, then translate the findings to key learnings that clearly articulate progress against goals.
  • Strong skills in statistical modeling, including regression and machine learning; an understanding of marketing mix modeling and/or multi-touch attribution is a plus.
  • Ability to program in Python, is preferred, while R, SAS and SQL are a plus. Experience working on large-scale multidimensional data using intermediate knowledge of open-source cloud-enabled analytical programming languages.
  • Experience with web analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics) is preferred.
  • Experience in email marketing analytics and related modeling, including familiarity with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, is preferred. 
  • Good presentation (PowerPoint) skills with solid verbal and written communication to translate complex analytical concepts effectively to a business audience.
  • Passion for interpreting data, intellectual curiosity to learn new techniques, as well as leading and inspiring others to take advantage of analytical best practices to understand the impact of marketing on both business and customer experience is essential.  
  • Thorough knowledge of Descriptive Analytic practices and processes. General knowledge of insurance products/concepts preferred.
  • Experience using explanatory, diagnostic, and inferential techniques such as experimental design, hypothesis testing, clustering analysis, time series and other statistical modeling algorithms with the ability to decide the appropriate methodology for the purpose.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through to ensure timely completion.
  • Ability to foresee challenges and proactively look for ways to create more efficient processes for the business.
  • Proactively build and own professional business relationships across the data & analytics community across the Enterprise.

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelor's degree or three years of experience in data, analytics, engineering, science, technical analytical fields or relevant experience.
